RED DAWN 36: The Eternal Anglo Strikes Agaayinn, with Professor Drew Fraser

The Anglo: God’s gift to civilization, or scourge of the White Race? Special guest Professor Drew Fraser and the bros contend over the legacy of The Empire and her ruling class–White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Singh swoons over the Anglo’s contributions to philosophy, sport and politics; while Greg and Vince kvetch about his less-than-savory aspects .

Professor Fraser taught at Macquarie University in Sydney, Oz, and he is the author of The WASP Question.

Introductory clip is from¬†The Ruling Class¬†(1972) starring Peter O’Toole. Outro song is “Rule Britannia,” from a live performance. The refrains lyrics “Britons never never shall be slaves” makes for rueful listening in the current year.

  1. American WASPS were a breed apart from other Anglos. They no longer exist however. They have been consigned to the bone yard of history. They were primarily pioneer stock which self selected for individualism. In the case of New England WASPS they came more from East Anglia and were more communal and egalitarian in tendency. These are the WASPS we think off when we think of WASPS but I see NONE in Boston and I grew up here. The only place I have met anything close to a pure WASP is out in the Berkshires of Western Mass. Think of Williams College. As Harvard fell WASP families ended up in small New England Liberal Arts colleges many as professors themselves. The eternal merchant drove most far away and interbred with a select few. But the WASPS were already on there way out due to first Irish and latter Italian Immigration which replaced them from the Boston Metro Area.
